LIGI KUU YA VODACOM 2013/2014 KUANZA AGOSTI 24

 

Ligi Kuu ya Vodacom (VPL) kuwania ubingwa wa Tanzania Bara msimu wa 2013/2014 inaanza kutimua vumbi Agosti 24 mwaka huu kwa timu zote 14 kuwa viwanjani katika miji saba tofauti.

Hata hivyo, kabla ya ligi hiyo kuanza kutakuwa na mechi ya kufungua msimu (Ngao ya Jamii- Community Shield) kati ya bingwa mtetezi Yanga na Makamu bingwa Azam itakayochezwa Agosti 17 mwaka huu Uwanja wa Taifa, Dar es Salaam.

Mechi za Agosti 14 mwaka huu zitakuwa kati ya Yanga na Ashanti United (Uwanja wa Taifa, Dar es Salaam), Mtibwa Sugar na Azam (Uwanja wa Manungu, Morogoro), na JKT Oljoro na Coastal Union (Uwanja wa Kumbukumbu ya Sheikh Kaluta Amri Abeid, Arusha).

Nyingine ni Mgambo Shooting na JKT Ruvu (Uwanja wa Mkwakwani, Tanga), Rhino Rangers na Simba (Uwanja wa Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Tabora), Mbeya City na Kagera Sugar (Uwanja wa Kumbukumbu ya Sokoine, Mbeya), na Ruvu Shooting na Tanzania Prisons (Uwanja wa Mabatini, Mlandizi, Pwani).

Mzunguko wa kwanza wa ligi hiyo utamalizika Novemba 3 mwaka huu wakati wa pili utamailizika Aprili 27 mwakani.

Magari awafunda wasanii chipukizi.

MSANII Gwiji wa filamu Tanzania,  Charles Magari  maarufu kama "Mzee wa Magari" amewaasa wasanii chipukizi wa tasnia hiyo nchini kutambua kuwa sanaa ni kazi kama zilivyo nyingine ambayo inaweza ‘kumtoa’ kijana kutoka kwenye umaskini na kuwa katika hali nzuri ya kimaisha. Aliyasema hayo mwishoni mwa wiki kwenye sherehe za uzinduzi wa Filamu  mpya iitwayo “Hulka” iliyofanyika mjini Lushoto, Mkoani Tanga ambapo iliwashirikisha wasanii wengine nguli kama Mzee Jengua, Davina, Birigita na Sekuti. Magari alisema vijana wengi wanaonekana wakipoteza muda kwenye vijiwe wakipiga porojo zisizo na tija huku wakilalamikia hali duni ya maisha yao wakidai kuwa hawana ajira. “ Ajira huwezi kuipata kwa kukaa tu na kulalamika kwani fursa ya kujiajiri imepanuka sana”, alisema Magari na kuongeza, tasnia ya sanaa bado inahitaji vijana wengi wenye kujituma. Alieleza kuwa nia ya kuja kuzindua filamu hiyo ni kutaka kuwapa fursa vijana wa wilaya ya Lushoto kujifunza maudhui yaliyomo katika filamu hiyo na kuchukua hatua ya kujisahihisha. Katika filamu hiyo washiriki wanaigiza tabia ya kabila fulani ambalo halikutajwa ambapo mwanamke aliyeolewa huona hapendwi asipopigwa na muwe mara kwa mara. Nafasi ya mume anacheza Sekuti ambapo Biligita anachukua nafasi ya mke,Mume ni mtoto wa Mzee Jengua na mke ni binti ya Mzee Magari. Akizindua filamu hiyo kwa niaba ya Mkuu wa Wilaya ya Lushoto,Majid Mwanga, Ofisa Utamaduni wa wilaya hiyo, Ezekiel Almas alisema wakati sanaa inaanza kukubalika katika jamii, upo umuhimu kwa washiriki hao kujali na kudumisha tamaduni za kiafrika. Almas aliitaka jamii kuondoa dhana iliyojengeka katika baadhi ya watu kwamba usanii ni uhuni ambapo alieleza uhuni ni tabia ya mtu binafsi sio fani yake. Meneja wa Creator Entertainment iliyoandaa sherehe hizo, Mwanahawa Chongole alisema kampuni yake ilikubali kuchukua jukumu la kuandaa sherehe hizo kutokana na kutambua umuhimu wa maudhui yaliyomo ndani ya filamu hiyo kwani inatoa ujumbe utakaoelimisha jamii kwa ufasaha. Tanga Warriors yaiadhiri City Kings yaibamiza Vikapu 46-37.

TIMU ya Mpira wa Kikapu ya Tanga Warriors mwishoni mwa wiki iliifunga City Kings vikapu 46-37 katika bonanza la Michezo ambalo liliandaliwa na Bandari Tanga lengo likiwa ni kuwaweka vijana pamoja na kuinua michezo. Katika mchezo huo Tanga Warriors walionekana kucheza kwa kujipanga na kupeleka mashambulizi mara kwa mara kwenye lango la City Kings ambapo mpaka mzunguko wa kwanza unamalizika Tanga Warriors walikuwa wanaongoza kwa vikapi 37-22 kwenye mechi hiyo ambayo ilichezwa viwanja vya Bandari jijini Tanga. Baada ya kumalizika mechi hiyo ilifuatiwa na mchezo wa Pete ambapo timu ya Umiseta Tanga iliweza kuumana na Bandari Tanga na kumalizika kwa Bandari Tanga kuibuka na ushindi wa mabao 24-19,katika mchezo ambao ulikuwa na upinzani wa hali ya juu. Bonanza hilo ambalo lilikuwa la aina yake kutokana na kuhudhuriwa na wadau mbalimbali wa michezo mkoani ambapo kwenye mchezo wa kikapu timu ya  Umiseta Tanga waliweza kuifunga Bandari kwa vikapu 24-17. Mechi ya mwisho ambayo ilikuwa na upinzani mkubwa ni ya kuvuta kamba ambapo timu ya City Kings iliweza kuibuka kidede baada ya kuwavuta Tanga Warriors seti 2-1 michezo ambayo ilichezwa viwanja vya Bandari jijini Tanga. Nyota wa bonanza hilo alikuwa ni Adam Mkondo kutoka timu ya Tanga Warriors ambaye alichangia kwa kiasi kikubwa kuipa ushindi timu yao kwenye mechi hiyo . Akizungumza kabla ya kuanza bonanza hilo mgeni rasmi, Kaimu Meneja wa Bandari Tanga,Moshi Mtambalike Chawala alisema lengo la bonanza hilo lilikuwa kuwapa hamasa vijana kupenda michezo pamoja na kuwataka vijana kupenda kujituma na kucheza kwa moyo kwani michezo ni ajira ambayo inaweza kuwainua katika maisha yao. Kwa upande wake, Afisa Utumishi wa Bandari ya Tanga, Teckla Malombe alisifu viwango vya wachezaji walioshiriki bonanza hilo na kuwataka vijana kuendelea kupenda michezo na kuipa kipaumbele. KLABU ya Arsenal imemuacha straika Theo Walcott aliye katika mvutano na timu hiyo kuhusiana na mkataba wake mpya kwenye kalenda yao ya mwaka 2013, imefahamika.

Gazeti la The Sun limesema vilevile kuwa Bacary Sagna, ambaye pia anaisumbua klabu hiyo katika mazungumzo yao kuhusu kusaini mkataba mpya, ni mchezaji mwingine nyota aliyeachwa katika kalenda rasmi ya timu hiyo kwa mwaka ujao.

Mgomo wake huo tayari umeziamsha klabu kadhaa za Ligi Kuu ya England zikiwamo za Liverpool na Manchester City, ambao wanaaminika kuwa wako tayari kuilipa Arsenal paundi za England milioni 15 ili kumnasa wakati wa kipindi cha uhamisho wa dirisha dogo la Januari.

Kocha wa Arsenal, Arsene Wenger amesema wazi kwamba anataka na anatarajia kwamba Walcott atasaini mkataba mpya wa kumbakiza katika klabu yao.

Kulikuwa na vurugu zisizokuwa za kawaida kwenye Uwanja wa Ndege wa Kimataifa wa Mfalme Khaled jijini Riyadh baada ya kuwasili kwa kikosi cha timu ya taifa ya Argentina kujiandaa na mechi yao ya kimataifa ya kirafiki dhidi ya Saudi Arabia kwenye Uwanja wa Mfalme Fahd kesho Jumatano.

Maafisa wa Uwaja wa Ndege walilalamikia kitendo cha maelfu ya mashabiki kufika uwanjani na kulazimisha wapewe nafasi ya kumuona nyota wa Argentina na klabu ya Barcelona ya Hispania, Lionel Messi.

Licha ya ulinzi mkali wa polisi waliokuwa na silaha za moto kwenye uwanja wa ndege na pia katika barabara nzima ya kuelekea uwanjani, bado mamia ya mashabiki wa Messi walifanikiwa kupenya na kufika uwanjani.

Straika huyo alifika jijini Riyadh kwa ndege yake binafsi pamoja na familia yake kabla ya kuwasili kwa wachezaji wengine.

Hata hivyo, askari kibao waliokuwa uwanjani walitumia 'akili' za ziada kuwapiga chenga mashabiki na kufanikiwa kumuondoa Messi uwanjani.

Mashabiki wengi na maafisa wa usalama walilaumu vurugu za kulazimisha kumuona Messi kweny uwanja wa ndege, wakisema kwamba ishara hiyo si nzuri kwa timu ya taifa ya Saudi.

TACTICAL BRIEFA second home match in four days, and Chelsea will be looking to avenge last season's 0-2 home defeat, which allowed the Geordies to finish one place higher in the league table. Clive Walker supplies the context.

Key battles'I was delighted to see Fernando Torres off the mark for the league season on Wednesday, albeit from a position that should probably have been called offside. You have that bit of luck sometimes; sometimes it goes against you.

'That's the only goal of Chelsea's six so far that's been scored by an attacker: three have come from defenders and two from a midfielder. Although it's great to share the load I fancy Robbie Di Matteo will want his frontmen get their tally for the season.

'Alan Pardew will hope to have his skipper Fabio Coloccini back in the centre of defence as that area will be under enormous pressure if Chelsea play well, with Torres always on the centre-back's shoulder, looking to be slipped in behind.

'We are playing it through the middle a lot, with little, quick players with great skills who retain the ball well. Steven Taylor is an excellent defender and Coloccini has improved a hell of lot. But I was at the Spurs game. Newcastle weren't good first half. They didn't look top-four challengers to me.
'You certainly can't fault Eden Hazard's generosity in setting up five goals, and Alan Pardew will have been sweating over video to see how to stop the Belgian, who has been a revelation.
'He is so quick and decisive in everything he does it's very hard for opponents to know how to counter. Most have simply decided to foul him! He hardly gives the ball away either and the likes of Cheikh Tioté and Jonas Gutiérrez will have to be on their toes covering his movement. Gutierrez is not great defensively for me and our guys could tie him in knots.
'It's a bit "Tales of the Unexpected" on both sides really. Hazard brings unpredictability in that he can quickly change the shape of your attack. He has got together with Mata and it seems to work, and Mata already had a good link with Torres, which makes a triangle. That's what you're taught when you start off in the game - work in triangles. In the fullness of time I don't doubt Oscar will fit in there well too. More of our football is being played spontaneously, supported by a solid back four, and the two in midfield doing well.
'Newcastle will have worked out that Hazard likes to pick out Juan Mata but identifying that is easier than stopping it. It may be a slight issue that their midfielders have played a Europa League qualifier just 48 hours earlier, but players' legs are fresh this time of year - it shouldn't make much difference.

 BINGWA wa ngumi za kulipwa, Francis ‘SMG’ Cheka ameingia katika orodha ya mabondia bora 15 duniani wanaotambuliwa na Chama cha Masumbwi cha IBF.

Cheka bingwa wa taji hilo Afrika ameingia kwenye orodha hiyo kufuatia viwango vya ubora vya dunia vya IBF vilivyotolewa hivi karibuni.

 Yanga retain Kagame Cup

Defending Cecafa Kagame Cup champions Yanga have retained their crown after a superb 2-0 win over debutants Azam in an exciting final played at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
Hamisi Kiiza broke the deadlock a minute before half time after a defensive blunder by Azam's Said Morad whose back pass was intercepted by the Yanga striker who then lobbed the ball over an advancing Munishi in Azam's goal.
Azam worked hard to get back into the game but the Yanga defence marshalled by defender Nardir Haroub remained steadfast.
Haruna Niyonzima's creativity at the middle of the park was driving Yanga as his deft passes and sublime runs troubled the Azam defence and deep in injury time he set up Said Bahanuzi who blasted a screamer to give Yanga the deserved 2-0 win with his sixth goal of the tourney.
After the final whistle the multitude of fans sang song of praises as they ululated to Yanga's win.

Kenya face Botswana in friendly

Kenya’s under 23 side take on Botswana in an international friendly on Thursday from Nyayo National Stadium from 5pm on SuperSport 9East.

The hosts will field a development side while the latter have local-based players who will use this match as an opportunity to prove their worth.

Caulker renews Tottenham deal

 Tottenham defender Steven Caulker has signed a new four-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.
The 20-year-old has also established himself as a regular in the England Under-21 set-up and was recently called up to the Team GB football squad for the Olympics.
Caulker signed his first professional deal with Tottenham in 2008 and he has since enjoyed successful loan spells at Swansea, Yeovil and Bristol City.
The Londoner has only made one appearance for Tottenham - two years ago in the League Cup defeat to Arsenal - but he is expected to challenge for a first-team place next season under new boss Andre Villas-Boas

 

Senegal name Koto as fulltime coach

Joseph Koto has been appointed fulltime coach of Senegal for the rest of their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, the national football federation said on Thursday.
Koto was put in charge on a temporary basis after the dismissal of Amara Traore in February following a poor African Nations Cup competition for the team.
Senegal picked up four points from their opening two World Cup Group J matches last month - a home win over Liberia and a draw in Uganda.
In April, Senegal appointed Pierre Lechantre, a former Nations Cup winner, as coach only for the Frenchman to pull out of the deal just two weeks later.
Former international Koto is also coach of the under-23 side who will compete this month in the men's football tournament at the London Olympics.

 

Saintfiet headed to Yanga

Former Nigeria Technical Director Tom Saintfiet is set to take over Tanzania giants Yanga with immediate effect SuperSport.com can reveal.
Saintfiet who has been in his native Belgium was expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam,Tanzania on Tuesday and immediately embark on preparing the Cecafa Kagame cup defending champions.
"Yanga want me to start work immediately since they have agreed to all my requests. My wish was to coach a national team but with the renewed interest I will have to settle for club level and help them as they continue preparations with Cecafa Kagame Cup."
"I will be travelling to Tanzania and I will get a brief on my job description," Saintfiet told SuperSport.com.
Yanga had earlier last week considered former Harambee Stars coach Jacob "Ghost"Mulee for the job but settled on the experienced 39 year old tactician who has also coached Namibia, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia national teams

 

Torres hails magical Kiev night

 Fernando Torres hailed a "magical evening" in Kiev after Spain thumped Italy 4-0 in the final of Uefa Euro 2012™ and he scored a goal to land the tournament's golden boot award.

The Chelsea striker joins an elite list of players who have won the European Cup and the European Championship in the same year.
Torres and club mate Juan Mata, who netted Spain's fourth goal, became the sixth and seventh to achieve the feat after Luis Suarez with Inter Milan and Spain in 1964 and Hans van Breukelen, Berry van Aerle, Ronald Koeman and Gerald Vanenburg with PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands in 1988.
"You can't ask for more but it is the work of the team and the togetherness that has brought us here," Torres told his personal website (www.fernando9torres.com).
"You always want to win more and more but right now we have to enjoy this," added the 28-year-old. "We have dominated from start to finish and enjoyed a magical evening."
Spain are the first nation to win back-to-back European Championships with a World Cup in between and under coach Vicente del Bosque have set a new standard in international football.
Torres said Spain had ridden their luck at times during Euro 2012 but were now very much the team to beat.
"Now we can say national teams of the future will concentrate on us to try and make history," said Torres who also scored the winner in the Euro 2008 final.
"We had luck in some moments of the championship but at the end we will reflect on what it means in Spanish football history."

Vita club for Kagame Cup

Vita Club of Democratic Republic of Congo has been invited to take part in the Cecafa Kagame Cup championship that kicks off on July 14.
Vita Club was among four others that had requested to take part in the event.
Eleven clubs will contest the two week championship that will be broadcast on your world champions SuperSport across Africa.
Other clubs taking part in the championship include Yanga(holders), Simba and Azam from Tanzania, Tusker( Kenya), APR (Rwanda), Atletico (Burundi), Ports (Djibouti), URA (Uganda), Mafunzo (anzibar),Wau Salam (South sudan) and Vita club (DRC).
The draws and fixtures were unveiled in Dar es Salaam on Thursday with the defending champions Yanga facing Burundi's Atletico in the opening match Saturday week.
"The long term objective of Cecafa is to make Kagame Cup one of the biggest club football competitions in Africa. With enough sponsorship next year, we may increase the number to 16 following growing interest from clubs across the continent," Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye told SuperSport.com.
"Cecafa patron President Paul Kagame has already committed USD 60,000 in prize money which will be shared among the top three finishers.
”In responding to the vision of President Kagame, CECAFA wishes to use the power of football to promote Peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region and in the Horn of Africa," Musonye added.

 

Midfielder Andres Iniesta says Spain are not going to change their style and believes the lack of entertainment in their games is due to opponents setting out purely to defend against the world champions.

Spain's performance against France in their 2-0 quarterfinal win was viewed in many quarters as lacking in attacking intent with their possession football failing to provide much in the way of a spectacle.
But Iniesta says their short-passing possession game, which has brought a European Championship and World Cup triumph, won't be abandoned.
"We have our own style, our own game which has brought us success. We have won two trophies with this style but any opinions are valid and I respect them," he said ahead of Wednesday's semifinal with Portugal at the Donbass Arena.
"This is the method that brought us success - we can't forget that a few years back, we changed the history of Spanish football nor can we forget the way that we did it," he said.
Iniesta suggested the lack of excitement was largely to do with the way opponents have clammed up against Spain.
"Once you have a team that always attacks but you attack against a closed defence of an opposition who don't leave you spaces, of course it is not as attractive as an open match with two teams that want to win," he said.
But the Barcelona wide-man rejected the notion that criticism showed a lack of respect for Spain's achievements.
"No. Football is great in this respect, not everyone likes the same thing, not everyone can agree on everything and a diversity of opinion is what makes it special," he said.
Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque said the team's record, with the Euro 2008 triumph followed by World Cup success two years later spoke for itself.
"We don't want to stagnate, we want to go forward but winning two trophies has been proof of our qualities.
"So we look to play in our style, people don't like it but it is our style - people have to complain about something," he said.
Portugal's approach has been based around a fast counter-attacking game, mainly through wingers Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, and Del Bosque said he expected Wednesday's opponents to play in the same fashion again.
"They are very stable, they have stuck with the same starting lineup and don't except any change except for (the injured striker Helder) Postiga.
"They are stable and their coach (Paulo Bento) really knows what he is doing. We will see if they do something new but I'm expecting the same Portugal we saw in the other four games," he said.

Egypt want Ngorongoro friendly

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have requested for two friendly matches between their under 20 side and Tanzania's 'Ngorongoro Heroes.'

The EFA has requested the matches to be played on July 3 and July 5 this year on special conditions.
> If Egypt will host the match, they will cover for accommodation, meals, local transportation and a place to practice for Ngorongoro heroes. And if the game will be hosted in Tanzania, the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) will have to undertake the logistics.
Consequently, the TFF secretariat is conducting a cost analysis to determine which cost is affordable before making the decision on where the matches will be played.
Ngorongoro Heroes marched into the second round of the African Youth Championships qualifiers after defeating Sudan 4-3 on aggregate. The finals will be played in Algeria next year.
They face Nigeria's Flying Eagles, with the first leg to be played in Dar es Salaam on 28th July.

 Nengomasha leaves Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of long-serving midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha from the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
Nengomasha’s almost 11 year stay with the club comes to and end after the player joined the club in January 2002. Nicknamed ‘The General’, the player went on to don the gold and black 324 times winning back to back titles between 2003-2005 and numerous cup competitions.
During the club’s Players Awards in May he was honoured with a prestigious award, the Chairman’s Special Award by the club’s executive chairman, Kaizer Motaung.
Motaung paid a glowing tribute to the Zimbabwean.
Speaking on the club’s website on Sunday Motaung said; “I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the club to thank Tinashe Nengomasha for the contribution he has made to the club since joining us as a youngster back in 2002. From the first day he came to the club he was someone you knew you could trust and would never let you down on the pitch. He always carried himself as a professional and his dedication on the pitch was second to none. He was a fighter and earned respect not only from his teammates but his peers in the Premier League and fans alike.
Parting ways is not always easy but all good things do come to an end. Change alone always comes with mixed feelings, but we are very confident that Tinashe will succeed where ever he goes to continue with his career.
He was a great servant for the club and we will forever cherish the years he spent with us and we would like to wish him all the best in his new endeavours,” said Motaung.
Nengomasha thanked the club for giving him an opportunity to play for them.
“I am grateful to the club and the management for giving me an opportunity to come here. I would also like to thank the fans in the manner in which they welcomed me to the club.
I will always have good memories of the time I have spent at Naturena. We fought so many battles together and the fans were always behind the club.
I learnt a lot from the likes of Patrick Mabedi, Brian Baloyi, Cyril Nzama and each and every player that I have played with. I thank them for the contribution they have made in my life.
I would like to wish the club all the best in the new season. I wish the new players well and at the end, I know they will take the club back to where it belongs…all the best to each and every one and thank you for the wonderful memories,” added a visibly emotional Nengomasha.
Nengomasha, who in the past decade made the number 8. jersey his own, won the PSL Player’s Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year back in 2003/2004 season.
He was also part of the team that won the Coca Cola Cup, SAA Supa8, Absa Cup, Telkom Knockout (three times), league title (twice).

Gerrard trusts in keeper Hart

 England captain Steven Gerrard believes goalkeeper Joe Hart could prove the decisive influence as his team attempts to end their quarterfinal curse against Italy on Sunday.

Gerrard said the in-form Hart is poised to become recognised as the world's best goalkeeper in future and may well tip Sunday's Euro 2012 battle with the Azzurri in England's favour.
"We've got one of the best goalkeepers in the world and eventually he will go on to be the best in the world," Gerrard said of Hart.
"His performances so far in the tournament have been fantastic. He's going to be one of our key players tomorrow night.
"We need Joe to perform to his maximum level because at some time in the game, or maybe in extra-time or even penalties he's going to be called upon to make a fantastic save – and we all trust he can do that."
England head into Sunday's tie at Kiev's Olympic Stadium in buoyant mood after topping Group D ahead of highly rated France.
A five-match unbeaten streak since Roy Hodgson was appointed as manager last month has fuelled genuine belief that England could reach the semifinals of a major tournament for the first time since 1996.
Gerrard, 32, was a member of England sides beaten in the quarterfinals at the 2004 European Championship and the 2006 World Cup.
However the inspirational midfielder is confident of a different outcome against Italy following England's displays in the first round.
"The level of performance of the team and the squad so far in this tournament gives me the confidence and belief," Gerrard said.
"I think in previous tournaments the reason we've gone out is because the level of performance has been under what we're capable of.
"I think we've got stronger as the tournament's gone on and hopefully that will be the same tomorrow night."
Meanwhile Hodgson acknowledged England were determined to improve their record against World Cup-winning sides in major tournaments overseas.
So far England have never won a knockout match against an established power when playing outside Wembley.
"It's a nasty statistic because it's a very negative one," Hodgson said.
"The more statistics which can be made to look negative with regard to the nation's football have got to be statistics that we have to try and do something about.
"But the fact is you don't change statistics by talking. You change statistics by getting on to the field of play and hopefully winning a game that you haven't for a long time and putting that statistic to bed."

 Minister calls for Russia overhaul 

 Russia's group stage exit from Uefa Euro 2012™ was "unsatisfactory" and showed domestic football needs major change ahead of its hosting of the 2018 World Cup, the country's sports minister said on Saturday.

Russia failed to make the quarterfinals of the competition after losing to Greece last weekend and Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko made clear that the performance would not go without consequences.
"The potential of the team is much greater than this result," Mutko told state television in an interview. "It is an unsatisfactory result. As a minimum we should have got into the knock-out stage."
Looking as the causes for the fiasco, he said: "The team was physically not prepared. They were tired. There needs to be renewal."
Mutko was critical of the Sbornaya's physical training under Dutch coach Dick Advocaat but also noted that the timetable of the Russian domestic season had left them playing several intense club games in a frantic May.
Advocaat – who took over from fellow Dutchman Guus Hiddink as coach in 2010 – had already announced before the Euro he was leaving his post, leaving Russia yet again looking for a new coach.
The medium-term future is of critical importance for the sports authorities, as Russia seeks to host the 2018 World Cup with a national team that will satisfy a hugely demanding public.
Pressure is growing to name a Russian coach for the side but Mutko lamented that there were currently no more than half a dozen Russians working as top trainers anywhere.
"Most of the head coaches at our leading clubs are foreigners... Let's not deceive ourselves.
"There needs to be a serious rebirth of the Russian school of trainers which crumbled 20 years ago" when the Soviet Union collapsed, said Mutko.
Even the team's actions after their defeat caused controversy, with the side failing to acknowledge the fans and star player Andrei Arshavin caught saying it was the supporters' problem if Russia had failed to live up to expectations.
"The players needed to thank their fans... The fact that our national team hid does them no honour," Mutko said, adding however that he was against a "hounding" of the Sbornaya.
He admitted: "There is tension between the fans and the team and this needs to be removed. Footballers need to play for the fans and understand that all their income comes in the end from the fans."
Russia's disappointing Euro 2012 on the pitch was exacerbated off it after the country's football federation was fined three times and threatened with a points deduction from the country's next European championship qualifying campaign.
That followed crowd trouble at all three of its group stage matches, with fans setting off and firing fireworks as well as displaying potentially offensive banners and flags.
For that, Uefa fined them a total of €185 000 ($230 000, £150 000) but threatened a six-point deduction for Euro 2016 in France after four volunteer stewards were attacked and needed hospital treatment after their first matc

Italy's Motta slight doubt for quarters

 

Italy midfielder Thiago Motta is a slight doubt for Sunday's Uefa Euro 2012™ quarterfinal against England because of a hamstring strain, team doctor Enrico Castellacci told reporters on Friday.

Castellacci said the player had been able to train but they would monitor his fitness "in the coming days" before deciding whether to risk him.
Brazil-born Thiago Motta started all three group games as the most advanced midfielder and would probably be replaced by Riccardo Montolivo, with Antonio Nocerino and Alessandro Diamanti also in the running.
Castellacci also said defender Giorgio Chiellini, out of the Kiev game with a thigh injury, is battling to be available later in the tournament and reserve centre back Angelo Ogbonna has a minor knee problem but should be fit for Sunday.

Balotelli clash history - ParkerEngland  

midfielder Scott Parker insists his recent clash with Mario Balotelli is ancient history as he prepares to battle the Italy striker in Sunday's European Championship quarterfinal.

Balotelli received a four-game ban last season after he was adjudged to have stamped on Parker's head during Manchester City's victory over Tottenham in the Premier League in January.
However, Parker is adamant there is no bad blood with the volatile Italian centre-forward as England and Italy face off in Kiev on Sunday with a place in the semifinals at stake.
"It's football - this is what happens in football," Parker said. "Whether Balotelli meant to do what he did or not, I don't know.
"He got punished for it and obviously has served his punishment. That was just part and parcel of football. I am not holding any grudges, I don't think anything, that's just the way it is really."
Parker, who has forged a successful central midfield partnership with Steven Gerrard, meanwhile believes England's team spirit can help them into the last four of a major tournament for the first time in 16 years.
Parker said England could learn from Chelsea's improbable victory in the Champions League this season as they sought to progress.
"I think we have a real togetherness and commitment in the squad and ultimately that can get you a long way," he said.
"We've seen that last year with Chelsea and other teams. I think fundamentally, they are the main key ingredients of why we can go and progress further, albeit it's going to be a very tough game against an Italian side that are very well prepared and organised with individual qualities.
"If we carry on doing what we are doing we can maybe upset them."
However, Parker acknowledges he is likely to have his hands full trying to contain a classy Italian midfield for whom the veteran playmaker Andrea Pirlo remains the attacking fulcrum.
"As a kid and when you play football, you want to pit your wits against the best and Pirlo is one of those," he said.
"The clips I have seen of him in this tournament, his passing ability, his control of the game is fantastic. I am really looking forward to the game. You always look forward to playing against the best.
"The front players are very tricky as well so it is going to be a tough game."

Now or never for goal-shy Benzema 

Tipped to be France's lethal weapon, Karim Benzema is still to score at Uefa Euro 2012™ ahead of a quarterfinal with Spain on Saturday when he will come up against several of his Real Madrid teammates.
Having scored a brace in France's last warm-up match, against Estonia, Benzema appeared to be arriving at the tournament with his confidence sky-high.
However, three matches later, that confidence does not appear quite so evident, despite his two assists in the 2-0 defeat of Ukraine.
Deprived of space in the 1-1 draw with England, he found himself out-muscled in the 2-0 loss to Sweden that condemned France to a second-place finish in Group D and a daunting encounter with world and European champions Spain.
"Karim would like to score a goal. He's had a few chances so far but unfortunately he's not been able to," said France coach Laurent Blanc.
"It might be a problem with the team, but the circumstances mean that luck hasn't been with him so far."
Benzema's bluntness in front of goal is a worry for France, especially as he will feel under extra scrutiny against Iker Casillas and his other Madrid teammates, with whom he won this season's Spanish league title.
With 32 goals in 52 matches, Benzema has increased his influence in the Madrid changing room, but it is no guarantee of success when he comes face to face with them on the pitch at Donetsk's Donbass Arena.
"He's frustrated not to have scored," admits France midfielder Florent Malouda.
"The best present we can give him, knowing that he'll be going back to Spain, is to help him go back with his head high, having commanded the respect of his (Real Madrid) teammates."
In Madrid's fluid attacking system, the former Lyon striker seems to play with greater freedom than with France, when everything rests on the shoulders of a man who has already played 63 matches this season.
And even though he has scored 15 goals in 48 international appearances at the age of only 24, he has only scored twice in his last nine matches, with both goals coming against unheralded Estonia.
The opening three matches at the Euro answered a number of questions about the configuration of France's triple-pronged attack.
Benzema and Franck Ribery have demonstrated a promising understanding on the left side of the pitch, but both players have struggled to link up with the enigmatic and occasionally over-elaborate Samir Nasri.
With only two of their attacking elements in full working order, it is perhaps no surprise that France have looked short of fire-power.
Frustrated by the lack of chances created for him by his teammates, Benzema reportedly made his feelings known in the post-match shouting match that erupted after the defeat by Sweden.
After the win over Ukraine, he had expressed his satisfaction at having Nasri play closer to him than in the opening draw with England.
"Nasri played higher up," said Benzema, who trails only Madrid colleague Cristiano Ronaldo in the attempts-at-goal statistics.
"It was much better – I could make runs in behind and free up space. So it's important for him to be closer to me."
On Saturday, against Spain, he is hoping for greater room to manoeuvre than he was granted by the Swedes in Kiev on Tuesday.
"Against Spain, who are a team that plays football, we'll have more space," he said. "The confidence is still there, but we need to get back to work."
If France prevail, another familiar face will await in the semifinals, with his changing-room ally Ronaldo already through to the last four with Portugal.
